Our bed and breakfast, (chambre d’hotes), Beau Séjour, is situated less than 15 minutes from Saint Emilion and surrounded by vineyards. We are waiting to offer you our hospitality. We love to share with guests our passion for this beautiful wine growing region of the Gironde, also known as ‘Bordeaux wine country’, or the ‘right bank’.Beau Séjour translates to ‘Beautiful Stay’ and that is what we strive for you to experience when you visit us at our bed and breakfast which is also our home.Originally from England and lovers of wine we have carefully chosen the location of our bed and breakfast to be very close to the Bordeaux vineyards of Saint Emilion, Pomerol, Sauternes, the Entre deux Mers, the left bank, (Médoc) and the beautiful city of Bordeaux. You may be surprised but there is more to this wonderful region than wine! It gives us great pleasure to welcome guests from France and all over the world to our bed and breakfast. We are here to help you enjoy the best possible moments whilst you are staying with us at our bed and breakfast. We are passionate about our region and we delight in sharing ideas for places to visit, the best restaurants, cycle and walking routes, wine tastings, and not forgetting the many shady spots in the garden to read a book with a glass of wine to hand. Our B&B is very close to the cycle track, named Roger Lapebie, going from Bordeaux southwards.
All five bedrooms at our bed and breakfast are spacious, luminous, decorated with good taste and each is furnished individually with antiques combined with contemporary furniture. The bedrooms have all the comfort you expect; comfortable beds with top quality mattresses and luxurious cotton percale sheets. All bedrooms have their own private, modern and heated bathroom with powerful showers, constant hot water, plenty of soft towels and accessories.
We are always striving to improve what we offer for a memorable and happy visit and we greatly value the opinions provided by our guests via Tripadvisor. A few reviews are shown below. Urike S The Best B&B Of Our Cycling TourWe had the great pleasure of staying at Maureen's and Jon's Chambres d'hotes during our cycling trip in October from Agen to Bordeaux. Beau Sejour can be easily reached from the Piste cyclable Roger Lapébie, a wonderful cycling track from Bordeaux to Sauveterre-de-Guyenne.Maureen's and Jon's hospitality was overwhelming. We started our stay with their daily free afternoon tea with home-made cookies (delicious!) sitting on the terrace in the sun overlooking the beautiful park-like garden.Later in the evening, Maureen and Jon served us a 3 course dinner (poached salmon in herbal sauce, quail in a red wine sauce with several vegetables and as dessert soft-centered chocolate cakes) with paired wines, which was one of the very best meals we had during our stay in France.Maureen's and Jon's house is beautifully decorated, the room was spacious and spotlessly clean, the bed comfortable and the bathroom modern. It was a wonderful stay and we hope that one day, we will be able to return.Martin F via Tripadvisor This was our second visit. We stayed with Maureen and Jon last year, and loved the region - it's so beautiful, with lots to see and do. Including, but not limited to, wine! I didn't think it would be possible, but Maureen and Jon made sure our second visit was even better than our first. So what made such an excellent stay?Accommodation: Chambre Ouest was large, spotlessly clean, comfortable and had a had a beautiful terrace out to the garden which we could enjoy.Hospitality: From the moment we walked through the door, Maureen and Jon were gracious and generous hosts, making us feel comfortable and extremely welcome. They moved to the area because they loved it, and their enthusiasm and knowledge of the area shows - they delight in giving guests advice, making bookings, etc.Food: Maureen and Jon really went the extra mile. Afternoon tea is a delight - a chance to catch up on the day over a cup of tea, homemake cakes and a glass of wine. Breakfast was excellent with a fantastic choice. Best of all, we arranged an evening meal which was absolutely delicious - we've come back with a number of recipes! We will definitely return again - this is a truly exceptional place to stay.Beverley W via Tripadvisor My husband and I have just returned from our first trip to France. Although hard to believe I would have to say that our 5 day stay at Beau Sejour was the highlight of our trip. We had hired a car and while there we travelled over 600 kilometres from Saint Emilion to the Medoc to Bordeaux enjoying the fabulous scenery, excellent restaurants, visiting exceptional vineyards and all thanks to Maureen & Jon's knowledge, expertise and caring, thoughtful attitude. Maureen and Jon went out of their way to ensure that our stay with them was exceptional.travelnutEncitasCa via Tripadvisor We just returned from 3 weeks in France and Italy and our stay with Maureen and Jon was just spectacular. They have lovingly restored their home and spared no detail. Our room was huge...as large as our master bedroom at home. The bathroom was beautiful and included heated towel racks. Maureen serves a very good breakfast every morning with homemade jams and pastries. They also put out complimentary local wine in the afternoon along with tea and biscuits. Both of them are very helpful in recommending restaurants, wine tours, local markets, and will virtually plan your entire day for you if you wish. The day we left we needed to leave very early to turn in a rental car and catch a train in Bordeaux...Jon insisted on getting up and making us toast and coffee with the comment "you wouldn't let a friend leave your home without offering coffee". It was 5:30 in the morning! We just wish we could have stayed longer. It's a truly beautiful property and the hosts are so lovely and gracious. Don't miss an opportunity to stay here if you're planning a trip to Bordeaux...it's a true gem. Bart Palmer P via TripadvisorThis was our first trip to the St. Emilion region. We stayed here based on a recommondation from friends that had been here earlier in the year. It was beyond our every expectation. The accomodations were wonderful, the enviorment delightful and most of all Jon and Maureen are the most caring, helpful, and considerate hosts. The breakfasts were exceptional every morning, high tea every afternoon is a must and when they cook dinner for the guests it is a 5 star event. Every detail of your stay is important to them and they go above and beyond to make sure you have the best possible exprerience in everything you do. Jon and Maureen have wonderful restuarant recommendations, know where to send you to buy wine, set up tours and excursions to vineyards and chateaus in the region and anything else you might wish to explore. If you follow their recommendations you will experience the region at it's finest. We will return and hope to send friends and family too! Thank you Jon and Maureen for great memories and the most wonderful, relaxing vacation we've had in 30 years! DavidLin726 via TripadvisorMy wife and I stayed here for two nights during our honeymoon trip in Bordeaux. We arrived with wonders and left with tears. We loved everything here, and certainly, Maureen and Jon, who run this lovely guest house with true passion and care for the guests. Definitely the best place to stay on earth. Will return and stay here again (hopefully with our kids)!
For those of our guests who wish to be sociable our bed and breakfast engenders a convivial ambiance where there are, if you so wish, opportunities to meet and converse with other travellers.Breakfast and afternoon tea are often lively moments where suggestions for visits are exchanged, travellers tales recounted and plans made. Our bed and breakfast is a house for all seasons. If you are visiting in the warmer months then you can relax on the terrace or under the shade of a tree with a cool glass of wine.During the colder weather then dinner in the salon with in front of a log fire is a perfect way to relax after a busy day.We offer a dinner menu all year round. In spring and summer, on the evenings when we are not cooking at our B&B, then eating out can be fun, either at a restaurant, an open-air café, or with a picnic. We recognise that more and more of our guests wish to be able to dine without having to drive or to always eat in a restaurant. So at our B and B we are suggesting a simpler and lighter supper on some nights. Please see our dinners page.

The information available, in English, on Saint Emilion and this part of France is sparse, unlike the Dordogne which is well documented. This means that many guests arrive not having allowed sufficient time to explore this area properly. They only realise the wide choice of things to see having spoken to us or to other guests. Of course it is then too late as the next stage of their holiday is already booked. For example, many guests do not realise that the Medoc, (the left bank), can easily be visited using our bed and breakfast as a base. Likewise many guests think that Bordeaux is just another large city. It is not, it is a beautiful city which is entirely walkable. There are some medieval buildings, roman ruins and a wealth of architecture dating from the 18th century. There has been massive investment in cleaning up the city in the time that we have known it. It has a waterfront of 4.5km where wasteland has been changed into a pedestrian area with cafes and shops where one can walk, cycle and sit and watch the world go by. Bordeaux is a very friendly and safe city. The countryside around Bordeaux is primarily non touristic rural France, at its best, with pretty villages where family life is one of the most important values. We have tried to give more information than is usually available under a new website called bordeaux-wine-country.com to help guests plan their holiday before arriving. In addition there is important information for those wishing to taste wine since the manner of visiting wine producers in the Bordeaux wine country is quite different to the manner in California, for example. So please take time to visit our new site. It is already a source of useful information although it is still being developed. It covers much more than wine tasting, encompassing historical sites to visit and details on towns and villages to see.The medieval city of Saint Emilion is 15 minutes by car, the historic cities of Bordeaux, Castillon and Bergerac are also only a short distance. The coastal towns of Arcachon, Gujan Mestras, for oysters straight from the sea, and the Dune du Pyla are within reach. The fortified (bastide) towns of the Gironde are fascinating to visit especially on market days, to sit outside a café and absorb the atmosphere with a glass of wine or a cup of coffee or tea is wonderful exercise!Often, the first impression of a guest when they arrive at our guest house is that they are in a spacious and relaxing home, not in a bed and breakfast but somewhere they feel welcome and 'at home'. There is a lot of space at our bed at breakfast and guests are encouraged to feel at home in the grand salon, which is about 70m², or in the large garden. Sometimes a bed and breakfast or a guest house is a little impersonal, we try our best to make sure that our B&B is not, in fact quite the reverse. We enjoy taking time to explain visits, be it to Saint Emilion or to Bordeaux or to our favourite producers in the markets or at local farms. Each day there is a market nearby and on most days a choice of markets. There are food and general markets in Bordeaux as well as a ‘flea market’ and a special biologique (organic) market in Bordeaux on a Saturday. We do not have a swimming pool at our bed and breakfast so the garden is a place of quiet to relax in and enjoy the wildlife. You can see red squirrels here all year round, whether they are rushing about gathering or searching for nuts or just rushing about. Sometimes there are deer in the garden. There is a wonderful assortment of birds, perhaps the most spectacular are the hoopoes, which can be seen in early summer feeding their young in the garden. There are many birds of prey around and there have been sparrowhawks nesting in the wood nearby. The woodpeckers and golden orioles are more often heard than seen. There are wonderful abbeys at La Sauve and Blasimon, both less than 15 minutes from our B&B by car along the lanes. In Saint Emilion there are many magnificent monuments, the Eglise Monolithe, the Tour du Roi, the collegiate church. There are also many wonderful churches and monuments in Bordeaux. There is great exercise to be had, perhaps walking in the lanes or cycling, whether on the cycle track nearby or the quiet lanes. Cycles or motorbikes can be left at our bed and breakfast safely. Cycles can be hired in Creon at the old railway station which is now a centre for the cycle path which uses a disussed railway line. Alternatively cycles can be hired in Saint Emilion or you can book bikes before arrival and have them delivered here. The local area is ideal for runners who like an early morning run, either on the quiet roads or the cycle track, so we are told! There are many wonderful walks, for example around Saint Emilion or Bordeaux. Horse riding in the vineyards is a pleasure for the young and not so young. Around our dinner table there are often several nationalities and sometimes conversations in three languages, so it is a good opportunity for the French or Spanish to practice their English or another language and likewise for the English to practice their French. So come to our bed and breakfast, close to Saint Emilion and Bordeaux, to practice your French or English conversation with a glass of wine in your hand!

Our aim is to follow the saying of Jean Anthelme Brillat-Savarin 1755-1826 (French epicure and gastronome):'To invite a guest into your home is to make yourself responsible for their well-being and happiness for as long as they are under your roof.’
For those who like to be more independant we also have a holiday cottage in a wing of our house.Guests in the holiday cottage can benefit from breakfasts provided in the cottage which is included in the price. How to arrive at our bed and breakfast. Our inaugural guests were two very weary cyclists who were following the pilgrim route to Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle, in high summer, and stopped at our gate. However, guests usually arrive by car.We used our Jaguar E Type for most of our holidays in Saint Emilion, travelling from England.
There are two airports within easy reach: the journey time from Bordeaux Airport is 40 minutes, Bergerac Airport is 60 minutes. The train stations at Libourne and Bordeaux Gare St Jean are served by the fast train, the TGV, from Paris. The journey time from Libourne train station to our bed and breakfast is 20 minutes and 40 minutes from Bordeaux train station. The towns of the Dordogne, such as Sarlat are about 2.5 hours from our B&B. We have ample free and secure parking for cars, bikes and motorbikes in the enclosed courtyard at our bed and breakfast.
You will find detailed information on our bed and breakfast by clicking the buttons at the top.
